More From South Dakota - More Diamonds That Aren't Diamonds

Day 308.
More From South Dakota - More Diamonds That Aren't Diamonds

In the past I have showcased some Herkimer Diamonds from New York that are not really diamonds, but beautiful naturally formed quartz crystals. Today I have something similar, but different. These are gorgeous jewelry pieces made from Black Hills Diamonds from South Dakota. These are also actually quartz crystals, but they are cut pieces rather than relying on the natural formation. I think they are stunning!

More From Oklahoma - I Don't Like Bats...But Everyone Needs A Home

Day 303.
More From Oklahoma - I Don't Like Bats...But Everyone Needs A Home

Ok, this item is a little outside my norm because of it's intended use. I found a custom builder of bird houses in Oklahoma and thought they were very cute, made in the USA and perfect for this blog...

http://www.birdhousesbymark.com/

...but after exploring his site a little more I found bee houses and, what is this...bat houses?!

http://www.birdhousesbymark.com/bathouses.shtml

I have never had a fondness for bats. Years ago I was living in an apartment and looked up to find a sleeping bat had attached itself to my curtains. I screamed, ran into the next room where I locked myself in and called the landlord downstairs, insisting that he come up and let himself in because I was not leaving that room until the bat was gone. I have no idea what happened in my apartment in the minutes that followed, but there as plenty of ruckus and odd noises...coming from both my landlord and the bat...but when all was said and done the bat was humanely removed from my apartment. Whew! Some years later we had a similar episode where another bat chased both my husband (fiancé at that point) and my landlord out of the apartment...I think one of them was armed with a tennis racket, but the bat still seemed to have the leg up that time. Anyhow, here's my point...I don't like bats, but if you want them around you might as well put up a bat house like these built by Mark. If not, buy yourself a bird house and welcome the creatures of your choice to visit instead!

Good luck Kelsey Griswold!

Day 301.
More From North Dakota - Coal Figurines

When I was little I remember taking a trip to tour a coal mine and returning with a souvenir...my very own piece of coal (I guess I wasn't taking any chances with Santa that year). Nobody was ever more excited to own a piece of coal than I was that day. However, I also remember my mother returning with a beautifully carved coal statue of an eagle. It was lovely! I was reminded of that when I discovered these beautiful coal figurines made from North Dakota lignite coal and crafted by an artist in Beulah, North Dakota...

More From North Carolina - Cheesecake

Today marks the end of a fifth round of 60 days. 300 days in a row I've been pointing you towards great products made here in the USA...I hope you're enjoying the ride as much as I am. Needless to say, at this point we have come so far we have to get this blog to a full year, so the next round will be 65 days!

I absolutely adore a great cheesecake! How much better could it get than straight from a creamery like Lindley Farms in Snow Camp, North Carolina. Here's a little bit about their mozzarella cheescakes...

and some of the delicious sounding varieties they have to offer from their family owned farm and creamery...

More From New York - Thousand Islands Salad Dressing

Day 299.
More From New York - Thousand Islands Salad Dressing

The other day I was sharing a story with a friend from out of state about how I had recently taken a trip up to the Thousand Islands. He said "What's that? I thought Thousand Islands was a salad dressing". Well, he is right, but the salad dressing was named after a beautiful tourism area in upstate New York collectively called the Thousand Islands. Here's the story of the salad dressing originating from that area...

http://www.1000-islands.com/dressing/

Although many companies manufacture what is known as Thousand Islands dressing, I was pleased to find this variety that is made in Clayton, NY...

https://securesite.gisco.net/secure1000isla/dressing-order.asp

During this visit I also had a chance to congratulate the pageant winner we recognize today as she was a guest at the Miss Thousand Islands pageant. Good luck Nina Davuluri!

I am a bit of a pack rat. I spent most of yesterday in my craft room where I have shelves and boxes and storage galore for all the items I have acquired for various projects. More From Nevada - Don't Eat Rocks...Usually

Day 295.
More From Nevada - Don't Eat Rocks...Usually

Something about candy rocks (way different from rock candy) is very intriguing and cool. Here are some "silver" choco rocks made by Kimmie Candy in Reno, Nevada that are clever by themselves, but packaged in this Nevada themed container make an even cooler Nevada souvenir...

http://www.eventflags.com/Nevada-Shape-Silver-Choco-Rocks.html

It reminds me a bit of a previous rock candy experience...

And although I'm pretty sure I don't have to say this...don't try this at home unless you also are using candy choco rocks (there, I think that covers it).

Good luck Diana Sweeney!

Missisippi isn't the only state with cool copper creations! More From Minnesota - Why So Lazy, Susan?

Here's a handy gadget I haven't seen in awhile. It's a Lazy Susan...you know, a table top spinner for easy access to things you might need. My mother used to have one like this and I cn't recall stumbling across one since my youth, but here's a lovely creation that was made in Minnesota using fine Minnesota hardwood.

More From Maryland - Art on Wood

Day 287.
More From Maryland - Art on Wood

I have an artist friend who has done some beautiful paintings using wood as a base. I have a print of one of my favorites that shows a bit of the wood's character and it almost becomes part of the art itself. I admire his skill (it's a skill I don't posess) and thought of his art when I happened upon this...

http://www.plakthat.com/

For those of us who can't paint, you can have this Maryland based company put any image you like on wood to create a really distinctive piece. Too cool!

Good luck Christina Denny!
