Ordinarily I'm not really into the whole "zombie" thing that has become so trendy lately, but these Zombee Candles made in Louisiana are just sweet soy candles with interesting names tied around their theme...a few of them are really clever actually...

So if you don't take it too seriously and just want to find a great soy candle, check these out.

More From Iowa - Detailing Products

Day 282.
More From Iowa - Detailing Products

It's been a wet couple of weeks...after we survived a couple of rounds of flooding in the area I lent my car to a friend to drive in a parade. Accidentally the top was left open and, you guessed it, thunderstorm that night. So I had a couple inches of water to vacuum out with the Shop Vac (also made in the USA) and I loeft the car open to dry out. I went upstairs to shower and change clothes and by the time I returned...yep, it was raining again! So I had to clean the car out all over again. Sigh. So needless to say, I'm looking to clean and detail the car right, so I was happy to find this line of White Diamond Detail Products made in Iowa...

If Miss Iowa is riding in a parade I hope she avoids the rain...good luck Nicole Kelly!

Day 268.
Journey Across America - More From Alabama - Handcrafted Pen and Pencil Set

Congratulations to Nina Davuluri who was crowned Miss New York last night. It was shared that there are now 51 days until the Miss America pageant where she and all the other state titleholders from across the nation will compete for the crown little girls dream about. In honor of all these young women I am going to do another round of celebrating items made in each state and also wishing good luck to each young woman who gets to represent that state at this year's national pageant.

So let's start with Alabama...

Buttons For Everyone!

Day 266.
Buttons For Everyone!

We have as tradition when we cheer our girls on in competition. We make buttons for all their supporters. Years ago I found a great company called Badge-a-Minit and their products are made in the USA.

http://www.badgeaminit.com/

I use their button maker and replacement supplies to make pins for everyone to show support from the audience at a competition and this year is no exception. Here's the process...

First I make color copies of the photo I want to use and I cut out perfect circles with the circle cutter...

Then I take the front of a pin set, add the photo and cover it with a clear plastic disc in the button maker casing and I give it a hard press...

Then I press the image back into the casing and add the pin back...

I add the remaining pieces of the casing and get ready to press..

And when I'm done I have a ready to wear button...

Good luck Amanda and Kimberly!

Going Pink

Day 259.
Going Pink

I've heard good things about Pink Armor, a brand of nail protector I had never tried before...

The best thing I've heard is that this product is made in the USA...

So I tried it...

Beautiful results! In fairness, my nails were this long when I put the product on, so I can't speak to any nail growth, but they do feel very well protected. When dry this product feels a little bit like a flexible shield and it dries very quickly leaving a hint of a pink hue. Very nice!

Fourth of July in the Big League

Day 258.
Fourth of July in the Big League

Happy Independence Day! Today I will be taking a break from thinking about cleaning products...in fact I may just regress to happier memories of a carefree time when I was a kid enjoying an American made product that I about as all American as you can get melding baseball and bubble gum...my childhood favorite after a softball game (good game, good game, good game) was always Big League Chew...

And look closely in the upper right hand corner and you will see that, yep, it's made in the USA. Happy Fourth of July!

Cleaning Up

Day 257.
Cleaning Up

At this point two big rounds of flooding have hit my local area, both causing water to flow by my house and create a big mess. I thank God for the volunteers from my church who showed up on my doorstep yesterday to help me with the whole clean-up process...big shout out of thanks to Pastor Sam, Ron, Amanda and Marsha. Let me just say, the Shop-Vac worked wonders! So that got me thinking about the other cleaning products we were using. I noticed the name on the bucket In had bought...Libman. So pleased to see that not only did I have a useful product, but that this company makes their products in the USA and have done so since 1896...

http://libman.com/

So good to know in the midst of the clean-up!

It Happened Again

Day 256.
It Happened Again

It happened again...another round of flooding came through my local area last night and another river of water rushed past my house causing yet another scare. When all is said and done this area is going to need an enormous clean-up. So that got me thinking about wet-dry vacuum cleaners and here's one I'm sure lots of people will be looking for...the Shop-Vac...

http://americanstation.com/shops/shop-vac/

Perfect for a good old-fashioned American clean-up effort.
